Unifiedon4th designs and manufactures a range of Yoga Pose pendants in sterling silver. As a manufacturer it usually supplies to wholesale clients who sell to retail customers. However this time, it is offering this range directly to yoga studios in various countries at its factory price.

We are told that the business owner is himself an avid yoga enthusiast and has involved many of his staff and factory craftspeople in yoga during their work week.
Karen has worked in the corporate environment and also in a clinical setting as a psychologist in Kuala Lumpur. She is also an aspiring author with her first book to be published in August 2010.

As a psychologist, she has borne witness to the constant dissatisfaction in the lives of the rich, successful and famous. she has also seen the psychosomatic illnesses that people developed due to mental and emotional stress, lack of self esteem and disillusionment.

Throughout this however, Karen has continued to progress her yoga practice with many teachers including Ann Barros, a senior Iyengar teacher with over 30 years experience, who taught and guided her on how to teach yoga for conditions such as sciolosis, backpains and insomnia.

Karen’s passion for yoga led her to train under the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre (Registered Yoga Schools RYS®) founded by Swami Vishnu-Devananda, a committed student of Swami Sivananda from Rishikesh, India. Living the yogic lifestyle in an ashram following the gurukala system under the guidance of Swami Atmaramananda, Swami Krishnadevananda and Swami Durgananda. During this time, she has became even more convinced that there is so much more to yoga than just fancy poses and health benefits.

Since then, Karen has extended her learning and practice to Ashtanga Vinyasa as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the teaching methods of B.K.S. Iyengar. To further advanced her training, she has also studied the speciality of prenatal and postnatal yoga with Sonja Rzepski who is based in New York.

Karen strongly believes the most important thing she has learned regarding being a teacher is to always remain purely as an instrument of yoga and that remains her aspiration. To facilitate and allow yoga to unfold gracefully and gently into each students life, at their own individual pace. That they may reap all the benefits through sincere practice, inquiry and discipline.

Karen humbly wishes each eager student, a wonderful journey of discovery and experiencing of the beautiful practice that is yoga – a journey one will not regret – the journey to inner peace and self realisation.

Display of feminine power: A formal course (Level 1)
by Nanci Traynor

Tuesday 7:30-9pm

Aug 3,10,17,24
Sep 7,14,21,28
Oct 5,12

This comprehensive course will jump start the student into the mysteries of Tribal Belly Dance of North Africa.

The student will learn the most important dance moves in order to lead in a circle. The beauty of this form of dance is it empowers the student to awaken their feminine energy in a community format. Hand, eye and body signals are used without words to improvise together as one.

Nanci will take the student on a journey of rhythms based on Jamila Salimpour’s research of zill patterns. The use of zill’s (Turkish term for finger cymbals) as a musical accompaniment to dance is documented to be 1500 years old. Each dance step of North Africa has it’s own zill pattern that goes along with it.

Through Nanci’s own personal pre-historical research she has theorized that the tribal dances hold the knowledge of our ancestors.

She feels this knowledge has been hidden from the public eye for a few thousand years. She also feels that this knowledge holds the key for building stronger communities that make the human environment a better place to live.

Course fee: RM425
*Includes zills

About the teacher:
Nanci is American-born Irish hailing from San Francisco. She is a fierce woman who expresses her feminine power through a dance form called Tribal Style Belly Dance. This dance form is born from the non-ruling class of Nomadic Tribes of North Africa, India and Central Asia. She mostly taught herself how to dance, but her dance lineage can be traced to Jamila Salimpour’s student Rossah. Nanci Traynor, a semi-nomad herself, encourages people to be self-sufficient, empowered and non-judgmental of others. She has proven that the human mind can manifest anything as long as the intention is clear, positive and benefits the surrounding life force. She spent a year in isolation on a cliff in Southern India. During her self study under the stars the universe was mapped out and translated through movement. Her greatest performance achievement to date was an invitation to perform in Lahore, Pakistan. She was awarded best performance and costume.

When KL-based yoga teacher Jason Isaac Collar was to try a yoga class for a bad back, he could never have anticipated the journey that followed. Jason tells his story:

“I had suffered from lower back pain for many years due to a birth defect called Spina Bifida. Spina Bifida, which literally means ‘cleft spine’ is characterized by the incomplete development of the brain, spinal cord and or meninges which is the protective covering around the brain and spinal cord.”

Jason decided to give yoga a try after reading an article suggesting yoga can help treat niggling lower back problems.

“My first yoga class was in the central business district – Jalan Brickfields. The class, which was taught by my Guru Manisekaran of Malaysian Yoga Society, was made up of a series of fixed postures, culminating in deep relaxation. My immediate sensation afterwards was that my back felt amazing, something which for many years I had not felt. I also felt peaceful and incredibly contented – a feeling that stayed with me for many hours.”

What made Jason launch his career as a Yoga teacher?

“Well, I guess I was very much in the state of transition. My initial intention was to further my experiences in the Recreation Department because I am a trained swimming, aerobic, golf and fitness instructor. However, during a conversation with my Guru Manisekaran, sometime in year 2005, he said: ‘You are good at it, why don’t you be a yoga teacher?’ This indeed was a defining moment for me. I decided that I wanted to share the benefits I found in Yoga with ALL.”

Thereafter Jason went on to pursue the Malaysian Yoga Society teacher training program accredited at Malaysian Yoga Society. When he completed the Malaysian Yoga Society teacher training program, his mind was set and that was when he knew he wanted to teach Yoga. Like the saying goes, the rest was history!

Quite quickly Jason found different places to teach – leisure centers, fitness centers, offices, and sports clubs and even on a coach trip.

“When I look back on what’s happened and how things have just fallen into place, I know and believe it was meant to be. Through teaching Yoga, I have the rare privilege of leading people back to themselves – out of their busy minds and back into their bodies, turning into the body intelligence we all possess. I am an “IRYT®”s (International Registered Yoga Teachers) with The International Yoga Federation and I am also Registered Teacher with Yoga Alliance International, a world-wide association, was set up by Swami Vidyanand. Yoga Alliance International supports the integrity of Yoga practices and philosophy throughout the world, marking the commonality of the Universal Spirit.”

Jason’s personal biodata is as follows:

This course takes place twice during May and June and is targeted to aspiring teachers and yoga practitioners from all traditions. It is for yoga therapists, healers, psychotherapists, yoga / pilates teachers and others who seek a deeper understanding of Yoga Nidra.

Experience a spiritual inner depth of yoga, often unrecognized in popular practice today. Extend your practice and expand its impact. In Sanskrit yoga-nidrâ means yoga of the sleep. Yoga it is the union, the union of the consciousness and the energy, the visible and the invisible. The sleep it is the unconscious. The yoga it is the awareness, the clarity (brightness), the lucidity, the observation of what escapes the common attention. Yoga-nidrâ it is thus the infiltration, the penetration of the consciousness in this dark, opaque, sluggish zone that is the sleep.

Click here to download the details.

Conducted by: Reggeesh Vatta Kandy
Regeesh Vatta Kandy started his yoga studies when he was seventeen with the traditional teachers from Kerala. The searches for higher studies in Yoga lead him to the great Bihar Yoga Bharati (the first university of Yoga in the world). After that he has been teaching Yoga in India as well in abroad.

Hanim Ariffin works as a freelance yoga teacher. She teaches at Havana Estudio, TTDI, and at banks in KL, conducting private classes for a few VIP clients who are just too busy to get themselves to classes or those who prefer the comfort of their home.

Hanim practiced under experienced Iyengar Teachers namely Karin O’Bannon and Birju Metha. She has completed a Teacher Training Course in Mysore, India, under Master Bharath Shetty.

In Kuala Lumpur, Hanim’s earlier exposure to yoga was under Parul Mehta who is a strong proponent of Iyengar Yoga, and Shilpa Ghatalia who is the owner of Jivshakti based in Ampang. She has practiced yoga almost a decade and started teaching over 6 years ago, doing different styles of yoga including Hatha Yoga (mainly Iyengar style), Integrated Astanga and Hatha from Mysore, and Yin Yoga. While in Mysore, she also studied basic Yoga Therapy series.

Before yoga became the big ‘religious’ issue, Hanim was invited to demonstrate yoga poses for 15 minutes for TV3′s morning programme called ‘Malaysia Hari Ini’ which was shown LIVE. She appeared for few weeks and was even invited to have regular appearance due to the high ratings and great responses.
